I have never been able to get DHCP to work on my Intel SWV7501 MB. It seems to work well when we "manually" set the BMC to the same IP as the server. I would much rather use DHCP or even let the BIOS set it (which doesn't work either). If anyone knows how to make this work, please share.

In my experience the major disadvantage is system management. As an
example, on one of our 1024 node clusters we used to configure the BMC
IP address identically to the server address. When we would
move nodes
around, we would change the server IP, but sometimes forget to change
the BMC IP, so we would have a BMC IP address that was identical to a
different machine's server IP address. As you can imagine, multiple
machines advertising the same IP can cause problems.
I think using different IP addresses is "safer", but this all
depends on
your environment. I suppose most people will never move
machines around
and change IPs like we might.

Post by Padma nabanCan anyone clear my doubts..
Is it necessary for the BMC IP Address to be different from the
server IP address.
if so what is the reason?
Cannot we have the BMC & Server to have the same IP address. Is

thanks,
